About Recompedia
What this site is
Recompedia is an index of console game recompilation and decompilation projects. Each entry records the platform, the project, its current status, where it runs and when its repository was last updated.
How entries are sourced
Every row is checked against the project's own repository: its README for status and supported platforms, its release page for the latest version, and its commit history for the last update date. Status is one of four values. Playable means the project itself states the game can be played through. In Progress means work is active and the project does not claim completion. Announced means support has been stated but not released. Unknown means the current state could not be confirmed.
What gets listed
A project is listed only if it has a public source repository for one specific game and ships no game code or data. A recompilation or source port also needs a tagged release, or a README stating the game reaches its menus or gameplay. A decompilation also needs a named target version of the game and a commit within the last twelve months.
Projects that only boot past the console's start-up screens, repositories with no stated status, archived repositories and ports that depend on console jailbreaks are not listed. When a README says a project was written with AI assistance, the row says so.
How data stays current
A script reads every listed repository each day. It takes the date of the latest commit and the latest release tag. Where a project publishes a .recomp.json file it also takes the status, targets and required game version, and where a decompilation publishes an objdiff progress report it takes the share of matched code. Status set by hand is re-checked against the README at least every 30 days. Status and release changes are listed under Recent changes on the home page and in an Atom feed.
What this site does not do
Recompedia hosts no files and links to no ROMs, ISOs, BIOS files or game assets. It runs no ads, sets no cookies and loads no analytics.
Recompedia does not host or link to ROMs, BIOS files or game assets. Every project listed requires a copy of the original game owned by the player.
