Skate 3 Recomp is an unofficial native recompilation of the Xbox 360 version of Skate 3 for Windows, Linux and macOS. Since v2.0.0 the game draws through its own Direct3D 12 and Vulkan renderer instead of emulating the Xbox 360 GPU, which the project reports as more than doubling the frame rate.

How to play

  1. Make a copy of the game files from a Skate 3 Xbox 360 disc you own. The project ships no retail game files.
  2. Open the project's GitHub releases page and download the build for your operating system.
  3. Extract the archive to a folder you control, run the game executable and supply your game files as the README describes.

Game version you need

  • Retail Xbox 360 disc image (ISO); DLC needs your own Xbox 360 DLC packages

Hardware & system

No minimum stated in the README. Runs on: Windows, Linux, macOS.

Known issues & caveats

  • The native renderer introduced in v2.0.0 is early; the author notes the game has not been tested all the way through.
  • Windows is the most tested build, followed by Linux, then macOS.
  • The macOS ARM build is experimental.

About this project

Skate 3 originally shipped in 2010 for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The recomp uses the Xbox 360 executable as its source and translates it ahead of time into a native program, the same approach used by XenonRecomp-based ports such as Unleashed Recompiled. Windows is the most tested target, followed by Linux and then macOS; on some Linux hardware the project suggests the Windows build under Proton may run better than the native Linux build.

Several community projects take the same recompiled code to phones. Skate3-Mobile, skate3-android and Skate3-Port build it for ARM64 Android with Vulkan, and skate3-ios-setup builds it for iOS from the player's own disc image. All four are pre-release and listed in the table above with their device requirements; console ports that depend on jailbreaks are not listed.

FAQ

Is Skate 3 Recomp an emulator?

No. The Xbox 360 code is recompiled into a native executable. Since v2.0.0 graphics are also rendered natively with Direct3D 12 or Vulkan rather than through an emulated Xbox 360 GPU.

Does Skate 3 Recomp include the game?

No. Files from a legally obtained Xbox 360 copy of Skate 3 are required to run or build it.

Does Skate 3 Recomp work on Linux and Mac?

Yes, native Linux and macOS builds exist. The macOS ARM build is described as experimental, and some Linux setups may run better with the Windows build under Proton.

Can Skate 3 run on Android or iPhone?

Community builds of the same recompilation exist for Android (Skate3-Mobile, skate3-android, Skate3-Port) and iOS (skate3-ios-setup). They are pre-release, need an ARM64 device with Vulkan on Android, and still require your own Skate 3 disc image.
